Companies Supporting ped UT-Heart Research

In the ped UT-Heart simulation process, heart replicas and computational grids are created and heart simulation reports are generated. The simulation results help surgeons select the optimal surgical approach, predict the prognosis of their patients, and enhance their life-long quality of life (QoL).

This simulation process is supported by the companies and engineers who are involved in the joint research.

CrossMedical, Inc.

Extracts 3D heart structures from MSCT data with high precision for use in creating heart replicas.
Creates 3D images of virtual surgeries designed by surgeons on a personal computer for use in hemodynamic analysis.

Three-dimensional structures of the cardiac great vessels are extracted from DICOM multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT) data of patients with congenital heart disease with high precision. Based on the extracted structures, the images needed to create heart replicas and perform hemodynamic analysis with ped UT- Heart are generated. Three-dimensional images of virtual surgeries designed by cardiac surgeons for individual patients are created on a personal computer. These images make it possible to predict postoperative hemodynamics using ped UT-Heart.

PIA Corporation Inc.

Japan Medical Device Corporation

Develops pre-processing and post-processing software and implements simulation.
Visualizes simulation analysis results for reports.

These companies are responsible for developing various types of software that are used for processing data of heart vessel structures before simulation analysis and for visualizing simulation analysis results after simulation. Simulated hemodynamic calculation is performed with a high-speed computer to visualize analysis results including blood pressure, blood flow, direction of blood flow, wall stress, oxygen saturation, and propagation of myocardial excitation to report them to medical facilities.
